Carol Lee Brown, Sr., 88, of Doerun, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home while surrounded by family at his residence on November 4, 2021.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 8, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Doerun with Dr. David Benton, Rev. Travis Gay, and Dr. Mitchell Kimbrell officiating. Interment with military rites will follow at Doerun Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday evening at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
Casketbearers will be Aaron Brown, Caleb Brown, Victor Stansberry, Frank Taylor, Ben Gay, Patrick Gay, Phil Brown, and Chad Kimbrell. Jacob Brown, who is on active duty with the Air Force, will serve as honorary casketbearer along with Floyd Taylor, Jim Saunders, Jason Gay, Jamie Saunders, Will Hobbs, Ricky Meredith, Ken Brown, and Wendell Brown.
Born September 11, 1933, he was the son of the late Naomi Jutson Lunsford Brown and Haywood Lee Brown. He was a loving southern gentleman who was the patriarch of his family. Children always looked forward to reaching into the front of his shirt pocket for a stick of gum. His sweet sense of humor and entertaining storytelling abilities kept the family spellbound as they gathered to enjoy fellowship. As a young pitcher he was instrumental in leading his high school Worth County baseball team to the state playoffs. He was known as being “hotter than an Eskimo in Florida” when he was on the ballfield. He was a lifelong avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He was a retired electrician serving as High Voltage Electrical Supervisor at the Marine Corp Logistics Base, and he was also a successful farmer. In addition, he was an Air Force veteran and a sixty-year member of the American Legion Post 324. He and his wife were active members of the First Baptist Church of Doerun.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, W. E. and Ocie Dell Gay; brothers, Wayne Brown, Bobby Brown, and Hal Brown; sister, Betsy Meredith; siblings-in-law, Mack and Martha Taylor, Max Gay, Myra Kimbrell, Ron Meredith, and Ray Saunders.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Mervin Gay Brown; children, Carol Lee Brown, Jr. and wife Susan and Jill Brown, all of Doerun; grandsons, Aaron Brown and wife Ginny of Canton, Caleb Brown of Doerun; granddaughter, Jennifer Stansberry and husband Victor of Smyrna, TN; great-grandson, Jacob Brown of Ramstein AFB, Germany; great-granddaughters, Katie Brown and Malia Cook of Canton; sister, Jean Brown of Doerun; brothers-in-law, Merle Gay and wife Dianne of Watkinsville and Jerry Kimbrell of Doerun; sisters-in-law, Marie Saunders of Doerun, Doris Brown of Sumner, Jackie Brown of Toccoa, and Imogean Gay of Doerun; many loved special nieces and nephews; and grand fur babies, Scoot, Toby, Whiskey, and Donut.
