C.J. Smith

C.J. Smith, 92, of Hartsfield died Friday, February 19, 2021 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

A family graveside service will be held at Hartsfield Cemetery. 

Casketbearers will be Brandon Smith, Davis Durham, Allen Edwards, Drew Durham and Ronnie Morales. 

Born February 28, 1928 in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Aubrey Smith and Jewell Culpepper Smith.  Mr. Smith spent a lifetime farming and raising livestock, he loved traveling to livestock shows and events all over the United States.  After retirement he spent his days at the Moultrie Livestock Barn hauling cows.  He was a member and song leader at Hartsfield United Methodist Church.  Mr. Smith was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Colquitt County Packers, he loved sports and never missed any of his children’s or grandchildren’s games.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alene Gay Smith; daughter, Debbie Smith Durham; brothers, Cleveland Smith and Leonard Smith; brothers-in-law, Dalton Gay, Eugene Gay, Jack Cole; sisters-in-law, Virginia Gay and Ruby Gay.

Survivors include his son, Brad Smith and wife Jan of Moultrie; son-in-law, David Durham of Moultrie; brother-in-law, Jack Gay of Hartsfield; sister-in-law, Catherine Cole of Hartsfield; grandchildren, Jessica Edwards and husband Allen, Brandon Smith and wife Alexa, Davis Durham, Diana Durham, Donna Durham and Drew Durham and wife Jordan; great-grandchildren, Jackson Edwards, Eli Edwards, Cooper Edwards, Bradley Smith, Will Edwards, Walker Edwards, Samuel Edwards and Joanna Durham; several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Due to Covid-19, the family requests no food or visitors at this time.
