MOULTRIE, GA – Claudia Fountain Hopkins, 81, of Moultrie, went to sleep and woke up in Heaven on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
A memorial tribute to Claudia will begin at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 30, 2024, at Heritage Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 A.M. Friday in the Community Room at Heritage Church.
Claudia was born on March 22, 1943, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late James W. Fountain and Allyn Whitfield Fountain Simpson. Early in life she began attending Sunday School and church and fell in love with Jesus. She made the decision to dedicate her life to following Him. Claudia was a teacher, newspaper editor, mentor, counselor and friend to many college students and ladies she met during her lifetime of service to the Kingdom of God. At the age of 15, Claudia enrolled at Emmanuel Academy in Franklin Springs, Georgia, a high school associated with Emmanuel College, where she later graduated in 1962.
She and her husband, Dr. David Hopkins, met on the college campus and married that same year and spent 62 years together serving the Lord in various capacities. Claudia worked on the editorial staff of several publications, including editor-in-chief of the local Northeast Georgia newspaper, also served on the Emmanuel college staff as a teacher, drama director, yearbook and campus news sponsor. For 22 years she played a pivotal role in the college leadership as First Lady when her husband was President of Emmanuel College. In 2007, she and her husband retired and moved to Moultrie to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Claudia will always be remembered as a beautiful loving, Christ-like wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many during her sacrificial life of service and devotion to Jesus Christ. She authored two books, From Pain to Promise, and Divine Interruptions.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. David Hopkins; daughter, Christine Hopkins Forehand and husband Jon; son David Mark Hopkins and wife Amy; grandchildren, Chason Forehand and wife Daphne, David Forehand, Jordan Forehand Denis and husband David, Adam Hopkins and wife Sarah, Paul Hopkins, Grace Hopkins; sister, Wendy Simpson Cosner; several other extended family members, former students and friends.
