Darrell Lee Simmons

DOERUN, GA – Darrell Lee Simmons, 81, of Doerun, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Dr. David Benton and Mr. Stan Smith officiating.    Interment will follow in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Casketbearers will be Lewis Brooks, Carlton Brooks, Paul Klein, Jake Simmons, Griffin Simmons, and Corey Bacon. 

Born May 5, 1942, in Hartsfield, Georgia, he was the son of the late JT Simmons and Ruby Knox Simmons.  Mr. Darrell was a United States Air Force Veteran, a proud farmer, and a member of First Baptist Church of Doerun.  He was a wonderful, hardworking husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Carlton Simmons; brother, Donald Simmons.

Survivors include his children, Toni Simmons of Leesburg, Traci Brooks and Johnnie of Doerun, Trev Simmons and Shanna of Doerun; grandchildren, Nicole Klein and Paul, Lewis Brooks and Katherine, Carlton Brooks and Tinsley, Griffin Simmons and Isabel, Jake Simmons; great-grandchildren, Josie Klein, Jackson Klein, Cason Brooks, Laine Brooks, Bobby Brooks, Calvin Brooks, JD Simmons, Bill Simmons; siblings, Irma Jean Smith, Margaret Bunch and husband Lynwood, Karen Culbreth and husband David; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Taylor; several other extended family members and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Doerun and Colquitt County FFA.
