Earlene Jerkins Johnson

MOULTRIE, GA – Earlene Jerkins Johnson, 93, of Moultrie, GA, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2024, at River Brook Healthcare Center in Homerville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Reverend Brian Blackburn officiating.  The family will receive friends after the service.  Interment will follow at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.

Born December 2, 1930, in Midland City, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas “Bud” Jerkins and Bertie Orea Hammacke Jerkins.  She spent her early years on the family farm alongside her brother and sisters.  Earlene met her husband after her family moved to Chattahoochee, Florida. They married on December 18, 1951, and enjoyed their time together until he passed away in October, 2015.  They raised their family in Moultrie, Georgia, where Earlene was primarily a homemaker. The family was actively involved in First Baptist Church Moultrie.  Earlene loved her children and family and was an excellent cook.  She enjoyed gardening and reading as well.  She left the family with many fond memories.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward E. Johnson, Sr.; daughter, Sandra Johnson; brother, James Jerkins; and sisters, Martha Ann Sellars and Melvaline J. Rabon.

Survivors include her son, Edward E. Johnson, Jr. and wife Chris; daughter, Sheila Johnson; grandchildren, Lesli Cook and husband Bob, Scott Johnson, Matthew Johnson and wife Egle; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Catherine Taylor; sister-in-law, Ada Frances Dodd; along with many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
