Faye Nichols Benton, 92, of Moultrie, Ga. peacefully transitioned to her eternal home on Saturday, May 7, 2022, while surrounded by family at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Moultrie with Rev. Matt Peek officiating. Interment will follow in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
Casketbearers will be Rock Bledsoe, David Stone, Steve Tyus, Ronald Penuel, Norman Watson, Durwood Dominy, James Phillips, and Matthew Clifton. The Joymakers’ Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, along with the Birthday Girls, will serve as honorary casketbearers.
Born August 15, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George Leo Nichols and Edna Lee Murray Nichols. Mrs. Faye received her Masters’ Degree after attending Meredith College and Carver School of Missions, where she met her late husband Roger. Mrs. Faye’s mindset was always centered around missions, and she considered her work a mission field. She had a long-term positive influence in the lives of many individuals throughout her career as a mental health counselor. She was an active longtime member of First Baptist Church of Moultrie where she was a faithful adult choir member and Sunday School teacher. She served on the Board of Directors of Crossroad Missions for 35 years. She was a devoted, loving wife and mother who cherished her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Reverend Samuel Roger Benton; sisters, Odessa Carroll and Audrey Kelly.
Survivors include her children, Valerie Benton Moore and “B” of Moultrie, Ga., Daniel Roger Benton and Alicia of Brunswick, Ga.; grandchildren, Jessica Falvai and husband Tim, Julia McMillan and husband Brian, Katie Kelly and husband Cole, Aaron Highsmith and fiancé Leanne, Hannah Benton, and Sarah Benton; great-grandchildren, Harrison McMillan and soon to be born Baby Girl McMillan; nephews, Doug Kelly and wife Lisa, John Carroll and wife Jannine, Jeff Carroll and wife Margie; special cousins, Gloria Mack, Bill and Marianna McElroy; and several other extended family members.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 400 South Main Street, Moultrie, Ga. 31768.
