Gerald Matthew Causey, 83, of Moultrie, passed away September 1, 2021, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Lifespring Community Church with the Reverend Julian Griner officiating. Inurnment, with military honors and last radio call, will follow in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Born July 26, 1938, in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Theo Fredrick Causey and Dora Lee Gay Causey. Mr. Causey was a proud United States Air Force Veteran and retired from law enforcement with several years of service. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from Abraham Baldwin, Savannah State and Valdosta State University. Mr. Causey was Chief of Police in the cities of Berlin, Doerun, Omega, Pelham, Coolidge and Pavo. He will always be respected, missed by many and will be remembered as the “Chief”. Mr. Causey was inducted to the American Police Hall of Fame on June 14, 1979 and was a member of Lifespring Community Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Dean Burgess Causey; sister, Elizabeth Causey Carter; brother, Walter Lavon Causey.
Survivors include his children, Monda Causey Mathis, Gerald Fredrick Causey and wife Penny, James William Causey; grandchildren, Brad, Tiffany, Sarah, Ashley, Jamie, VJ, Holli; twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
