Mrs. Helen Vick Blanchard passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Legacy Village in Moultrie. A private family service will be held to celebrate Mrs. Blanchard’s life with the Rev Julian Griner, officiating.
Born December 17, 1928, in Hartsfield, Georgia, Helen was the youngest of six children born to Mignon and Boyd Vick. She lived in Moultrie all of her adult life where she and her husband, Earl (deceased), raised their family. Helen and Earl’s home was the gathering place for the family on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and birthdays. As the children grew up and had children of their own these gatherings at the family home were an opportunity for all the family to be together again and were cherished times. As a young woman her contribution to the WWII effort included participating in activities for the pilots in training at Spence Field.
Upon graduation from Moultrie High School, she worked as a legal secretary and associate of the law firm of Moore, Gibson, DeLoache, and Gardner and later for Waldo DeLoache and his son, Mickey DeLoache, both prominent Colquitt County lawyers and businessmen. She served on the Boards of Directors for several banks including Moultrie National Bank and Baker County Bank.
Helen always loved card games and was an avid duplicate bridge player, as well as a formidable poker player. She regularly played in Texas Hold‘Em poker tournaments in Mississippi and Florida. Helen enjoyed watching dog racing and jai alai games, as well as, fishing for bream and catfish. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Helen was always an animal lover and enjoyed the company of her cat, Ella.
In addition to her husband, James Earl Blanchard, her parents, and siblings she is predeceased by her son, Chris Blanchard.
Mrs. Blanchard is survived by her daughter, Dr Amy Blanchard (Dr Dave Terris); son, Jim Blanchard (Debbie); grandson, Dr Mark Blanchard (Diane); daughter-in-law, Beth Blanchard; grandsons, Tyler Blanchard (Cree) and Colby Blanchard (Megan) and their sons, Brooks and Banks.
The family gratefully acknowledges the many kindnesses of their special friend, Loriann Canfield, Loriann’s family, Legacy Village and Colquitt Regional Hospice.
