Helen Marie Smith Lasseter

Helen Marie Smith Lasseter, 78, of Moultrie, died Thursday, September 24, 2020 at her home.

          Funeral service will be held 2:00PM Monday, September 28, 2020 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Love Lasseter, Jr. and Mr. Donnie Hancock.  Interment will follow in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Cobb Funeral Chapel.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are recommended.

          Casketbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amalachi Carter, Austin Craven, Blake Lasseter, Chad Lasseter, Ashley Perez-Carter, Shaun Berry and Daniel Carroll.

          Born October 15, 1941 in Nashville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Perry R.J. Smith and Iola Gordon Smith.  Mrs. Lasseter retired from Lasseter Mechanical as the bookkeeper and was the owner/operator of Marie’s Alive and Health Store, Marie’s Tax Service and a member of Heritage Church.   The family favorite memories of Mrs. Marie were how she would take grandchildren to the mall to pick out their own Christmas and gave them a budget, then would go back to purchase what they picked out.  Mr. Fred and Mrs. Marie took the kids to Pigeon Forge and watched scheduled shows together.  One time the ice created quite a challenge for them, and the hot tub was a lifesaver.  One year they put $20.00 in handkerchief boxes for everyone and play Chinese Christmas auction and they were truly surprised.   Mrs. Marie truly loved and cherished her family and she will be missed greatly.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela “Angie” Bishop; grandchildren, Jonathan Carroll and Jared Carroll; brother, Jimmy Smith.

          Survivors include her husband of 45+ years, Fred Duain Lasseter of Moultrie; children, Jeanie Merritt and husband Jackie, Stevie Carroll and wife Melissa, Tammy Carter all of Moultrie, Timothy Carroll and special friend Cindy of Albuquerque, NM, Fred Duain Lasseter, Jr. and wife Terri of Funston; grandchildren, Jeremy Merritt and wife Tramese, Jessica Smith and husband C.J., Justin Carroll, Brittany Carroll, Ashley Perez-Carter and husband Juan, Audrea Brightwell and husband Alan, Amber Carter, Blanche Berry and husband Shaun, Daniel Carroll and wife Shannon, Chad Lasseter and wife Desiree, Blake Lasseter, Terron Lasseter and husband Dalton, Alex Merritt; twenty-four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Robbie Hancock and husband Bill of Moultrie, Ray Smith and wife Betty of Mineral, VA, Mildred Wilson and the late Sonny Wilson of Moultrie, Carolyn Saturday and husband Vernon of Mineral, VA; sisters and brothers-in-law,  Mary Carpenter and husband Walter, Hazel Truluck and the late Buddy, Charlie Lasseter and wife Linda, Alice Chitty and the late Larry; long-time friend, Faye Spoles.
