Henry Preston Horne

DOERUN, GA – Henry Preston Horne, 89, of Doerun, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Jimmy Hiers  and Reverend Stanley Norman officiating. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Born January 28, 1934, in Colquitt County, Georgia, he was the son of the late George Henry Horne and Fannie Mae Thaggard Horne.  Mr. Horne was a farmer and retired from Colquitt County Sheriff’s Department as a jailer/bailiff.  He was a humble, kind husband, father, and grandfather, who loved the Lord and his family dearly.  Mr. Horne enjoyed growing things, tilling the land, and retelling tales about how his Daddy planted pecan trees that are still flourishing today.   He was a dedicated Christian man and deacon at Pine Grove Baptist Church.   Mr. Horne will always be remembered as a wise man who would always make you smile just by speaking to you.  He will truly be missed by many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie Louise Hancock Horne; granddaughter, Cameron Horne; siblings, Pearce Horne, and Marjorie Horne Alexander.

Survivors include his children, Ken Horne and wife Ericka of Moncks Corner, SC, Stephen Horne of Doerun, Judy Washington and husband Mack of Doerun; grandchildren, Ashlyn Mullen and husband T.C., Shelby Horne, and Dalton Horne; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends; best friend, Jimmy Hiers and special friend Julie Hancock.
