Jack Calhoun Chastain

Jack Calhoun Chastain, 88, of Moultrie, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020, at Legacy Village at Park Regency.

         A memorial service will be held at a later date. 

          Born August 12, 1932, in Thomasville GA, he was the son of the late Jack Edward Chastain and Ruth Calhoun Chastain Shepard. He earned his bachelor's degree in pharmacy at the University of Georgia.   Mr. Chastain was a United States Air Force Veteran and was stationed in Japan for 3 years.  He was the pharmacist and owner of Arwood Drug Company for his professional career spanning the better of four decades, during which time he loved serving and interacting with his customers and was fondly known by many of them as "Mr. Jack." He was a dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club and rarely missed a meeting.  Jack was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie. He was a devoted and proud husband and father and deeply valued his relationships with family and friends. He was a genuine person and a man of integrity.  In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf and tennis with friends. He had a great appreciation for nature, especially from the perspective of a canoe or a hiking trail, and he loved to travel. He had a wide variety of interests including UGA and Packer football, an appreciation for the arts (especially music), playing bridge, and working crossword puzzles.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Paul Holden Chastain and Lee Edward Chastain; first wife, Beth Holden Chastain; sister, Patricia Chastain Childs.

          Survivors include his wife, Martha Carolyn Cranford Elkin Chastain of Moultrie; daughters, Elizabeth Chastain Turk and husband Jeff of St. Simons Island, GA, Sydney Davis Elkin of Moultrie; son, Ian Jay Elkin and wife Kristen of Germantown, MD; daughter-in-law, Catherine Chastain of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren Camille Turk, Clary Turk, Nathan Chastain and William Elkin.
