MOULTRIE, GA. - Jack Norman Gay, a beloved founder, educator, and past president of Moultrie Technical School, passed away on November 14, 2023, in his hometown of Moultrie, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Westview Cemetery in Moultrie with the Reverend Julian Griner and the Reverend Matt Peek officiating.
Born to Luther and Mattie Lou Giddens Gay on December 22, 1934, he married Joan Henriott in 1958 and had two sons, Jack and Gregg, who had two daughters, Ella Rose and Olivia. After attending Sylvester High School and Georgia Southern College, he served as a business education teacher and counselor in Coffee County and subsequently as a principal in Minton, Georgia. Locating in Moultrie in 1959, he taught business and was a counselor in the high school. He received the Counselor of the Year for the State of Georgia. He was a founding father of the Moultrie Vocational Technical School (now Southern Regional Technical College) from which he retired as president in 1994. He then served as director of the Moultrie-Colquitt Chamber of Commerce where he was involved in the restoration and conversion of the historic jail into its headquarters. He attended First Baptist Church and was dedicated member of the community. For decades he was involved at the local, district and state levels of the Kiwanis Club and served as local secretary for over 30 years. He served in the United States Army Reserves for 2 decades during which time inspired numerous fellow citizens to join and from which he retired with the rank of captain. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed international travel and spending time at their second home in Highlands, NC.
He was an avid reader and history enthusiast and a super-fan of the Colquitt County Packers, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by wife Joan and sons Jack, Jr, of Belleair, FL, and Gregg, and 2 granddaughters, Ella Rose and Olivia Grace all of Danville, California, as well as brothers Jimmy Gay, wife Sharon, of Athens, GA, and Thomas Gay, wife Bobbie Jane, of Albany, GA. He was predeceased by brother Bobby of Albany, GA.
