James Harmon Mercer

July 25, 1931 — February 12, 2020

James Harmon Mercer, 88, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Legacy Village at Park Regency surrounded by his family.

          Funeral service will be held 2:00PM Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Williams officiating.  Interment, with military honors, will follow in Reedy Creek Cemetery.

          The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

          Casketbearers will be Tyler Bannister, Brady Bannister, Quinten Tucker, Jamey Tucker, Timothy Walker and Matthew Mercer.

          Born July 25, 1931 in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Ellie Austin Mercer and Emma Estelle Mercer.  Mr. Mercer was a United States Air Force Korea Veteran.  He was a retired farmer with Piney Woods Farms and was of the Baptist faith.   His family remembers how he loved fishing, gardening, reading and solving crossword puzzles.  Mr. Mercer was a kind, gentle, humble and sweet gentleman and never had cross words with anyone.   He will be truly missed by family and friends.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mae Wilson Mercer; infant son, Timothy Mercer; brother, Bill Mercer; sister, Nellie Murphy; stepdaughter, Phyllis Blackburn.

          Survivors include his children, Steve Mercer and Tina of Yulee, FL, Jan Walker and Carl, Vickie Tucker and Bobby, Donna Pate and Ricky all of Moultrie, Donnie Mercer and Emily of Adairsville, GA; brothers, Jack Mercer of Fairhope, AL, David Mercer of Pelham, GA; sister-in-law, Irmgard Mercer of Pelham, GA; step-children, Vickie Williams, John L. Miller, Jr. both of Moultrie; grandchildren Amanda Mercer, Sean Mercer, Timmy Walker and Sandra, Angie Kimbrell and Thomas, Jamey Tucker and Heather, Megan Spence and Michael, April Haymons and Andy, Autumn Pate, Elizabeth Mercer and Tammy, Matthew Mercer and Nicole, Joanie Blackburn; twenty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. 

          Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Legacy Village at Park Regency, 3000 Veterans Parkway South, Moultrie, GA. 31788.
