MOULTRIE, GA – John Madison Hall, 73, of Moultrie, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at his home.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
The family will greet friends after the service at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
Born September 3, 1949, in Dade City, Florida, he was the son of the late Jack Madison Hall and Rena Ann Megran Hall. John and his beloved late wife, Karen was the co-owners of National Landscapes for land conservation and was of the Baptist faith. They were a dynamic force for preservation and involved in research on Ossabaw Island and started their naturalist career working in the wilderness of Ossabaw Island, Georgia. Their three decades of conservation work includes publishing thousands of photographs in national publications including National Geographic, Smithsonian and Natural History. For eighteen years John, with Karen by his side, was the director of The Nature Conservancy’s first project to protect a large working ecosystem that in 1991 won the White House Award for Excellence in Community Conservation presented at a Rose Garden ceremony by President George H. W. Bush. They returned to their South Georgia home to start a new conservation and photography initiative called National Landscapes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Bailey Hall.
Survivors include his son, Brad Lodge of Jesup, GA; siblings, Barbara Hall Dabney and husband George of Houston, TX, Randolph M. Hall and wife Meg of Athens, GA; nieces and nephews, Caroline Dabney, David Dabney, Tressa Dabney and Houstoun Hall; several extended family members and friends.
