John Sandford Jones

BACONTON, GA – John Sandford Jones, 96, of Baconton, formerly of Doerun, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens with Brother Roosevelt Robinson officiating.

Born September 25, 1928, in Doerun, Georgia, he was the son of the late Thomas Buster Jones and Henry Belle Stone Jones. Mr. John retired from Jan Clay Farms as the manager and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was in the United States Coast Guard.  Mr. John was a very talented man; he was able to build anything, a handy mechanic, and a ham radio operator.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Ray Andy Jones, Ted Jones, Mark Jones, Dewayne Hasty, and Teresa Lynn Teal; thirteen siblings.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 ½ years Hazel Goff Jones; children, David Jones and wife Linda Carol, Debbie Schmitz and husband Heinz, Jeanna Sowell and husband David, Scott Jones and Carolyn Fisher; special loving daughter-in-law, Carolyn Fennel Jones; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; other extended family members and friends.

Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family will hold a memorial service at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness located at 1794 Highway 19 South, Pelham, Georgia.   Following the service, the family will gather at Mrs. Jones's residence.  All family and friends are warmly invited to join and share in remembrance.
