Jon Alan Darby

Jon Alan Darby, 70, of Hartsfield, passed away, Friday, January 1, 2021 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

          A graveside service will be held 2:00PM Monday, January 4, 2021 at Hartsfield Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Harper officiating and speaker Mrs. Lori Betts.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and mask are recommended.

          Born October 26, 1950 in Lowndes County, he was the son of the late Grady Thomas Darby and Janie Laurene Webb Darby.  Mr. Darby was a speech pathologist and an administrator at RWSIR (Roosevelt Warm Springs Institution of Rehabilitation) and a member of Hartsfield United Methodist Church.  He attended ABAC, Valdosta State University and UGA, earning a bachelor and master’s degree in speech pathology.   He loved his family, grandson and enjoyed being around people.  Mr. Darby enjoyed dancing, collecting coins and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs “Dawgs” fan.  Because of the loss of his eyesight, he was an inquisitive person, asked a lot of questions and he never let anything get him down.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Grady Darby and Ronald Thomas Darby.

          Survivors include the love of his life and wife of 44 years, Sherrell Harrell Darby of Hartsfield; son, Joshua Alan Darby and wife Laura of Elberton, GA; grandson, Jackson Lamar Darby; sisters-in-law, Debbie Darby and Sharon Darby both of Hahira.
