Joyce Walker Maples

Joyce Walker Maples, 78, of Doerun, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021, at her residence.

Funeral service will be held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Doerun with Rev. Jeff Apperson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 in the church. A private interment will follow.  

Casketbearers will be Michael McKinney, Mitchell McKinney, John Thomas Maples, Josh DuPree, Joel Hemphill, and Bailey Truett.  Darrell Truett and Matthew Maples will serve as honorary casketbearers.

Born April 20, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Earl Byron Walker and Rosa Lee Norman Walker Lewis and step-daughter of the late Ollie Lewis.  Joyce was an active member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.  She dearly loved her family, enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, gardening, canning, and cooking.  Munching on Oreo cookies and listening to gospel music always brought her great joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, the love of her life, Kenneth “Alf” Maples, Sr.; grandson, Zachary DuPree; brother Franklin Walker; step-brother, Alvin Lewis; and brother-in-law, Gerald Gay.

Survivors include her children, Ponda McKinney and husband Mike of Moultrie, Ken Maples and wife Wendy of Macon, and Sabrina Maples Roberts of Doerun; grandchildren, Renee Truett and husband Darrell, Michael McKinney, Mitchell McKinney and wife Carissa, Matthew Maples and wife Lyn, Sarah Maples, John Thomas Maples and wife Savannah, Josh DuPree, Nikki Hemphill and husband Joel; great-grandchildren, Bailey Truett, Fynlee McKinney, Mercy Kate McKinney, John Shelby Hemphill, Jason Adam DuPree, and Gracelynn Maples; and sister, Elaine Gay.
