Larry Gene Croy

Larry Gene Croy, 81, of Moultrie, passed away Friday, August 11, 2023, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 14, 2023, at Funston Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Shiver officiating. Interment will follow at Funston Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Casketbearers will be Blake Strickland, Danny Parker, Jody Parker, Andy Parker, Chris Tucker and Jamie Croy. Born December 6, 1941, in Funston, GA, he was the son of the late Dewey Croy and Maggie Woods Croy. Mr. Croy served in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. While serving in Vietnam he was awarded the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He was a tool and die machinist by trade and worked at Bridgeport Brass and Wells Aluminum for many years. He loved gardening and grew a variety of pecan trees. He spent many hours working and driving through the orchard enjoying them. He was a member of Funston Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Funston, Georgia. He was a quiet and humble man and didn’t like attention. He loved his family with a great passion and will be sorely missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Tucker Croy; brothers, Leonard Croy, Wayne Croy and wife Cathy and brother-in-law, Ray Parker. Survivors include his sons, Stacey Croy and Robin, Shannon Croy and Joy; grandchildren, Blake Strickland and Kristen, Mackenzie Wilson Croy and Steven, Katelyn Croy, Callie Croy, Cason Croy; brother, Randall Croy and Judy; sister-in-laws, Marie Hutcherson, Doris Parker, Sue Rosencrantz and Gene; brother-in-law; Marvin Tucker and Gale and numerous nieces and nephews. The family ask that donations be made to Funston Cemetery Fund. Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
