Hattie Loretta "Rita" Jordan Lewis, 97, died peacefully in her sleep on January 10, 2022. She was born April 14, 1924, in Colquitt County, Georgia, to Hattie Frances (Giles) and George Robert Jordan. She attended Okapilco Elementary School and graduated from Moultrie High School. She married William Matthew "Bill" Lewis on June 27, 1942, in Thomasville, Georgia. Mrs. Rita was the oldest member of New Elm Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, brothers Waylon, George, Ernest and Eugene Jordan, her sister Mary Pauline Brannon, and her daughter, Robbie Green.
She is survived by a brother, J. Burrell Jordan (Pauline), daughters Elaine Lester (Paul) and Helen Whitney, son Robert "Bobby" Lewis (Junelle), son-in-law Jerry Green, grandchildren Wayne Green (Trudi), Susan Hagin (Darrell), David Green, Timothy Lester (Nancy), Jonathan Lester (Angie), Lee Causey (David), Matthew Lester (Treska), Angie Roberts (Brad), Stephen Lester, Grant Whitney (Radford), Rob Lewis (Heather), Jessica Lewis, Blake Whitney, and Amy Shaw (Michael), 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, 5 step-great-grandchildren, and 9 step-great-great grandchildren.
No public services are scheduled at this time due to COVID precautions.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
