Lucilla Hires York

Lucilla Hires York, a beloved member of the Moultrie community, passed away on July 12, 2024 She was born on June 16, 1935, in Brooks County, GA to Bob and Cora Lee Hires. Lucilla dedicated many years of her life working as a seamstress at Riverside Manufacturing Plant, where her skills and passion for sewing shone brightly.

Outside of her career, Lucilla was known for her kindness and generosity. A self-employed seamstress, she touched the lives of many individuals in her Community through her craft. She had a deep love for attending church, exploring yard sales, indulging in fishing excursions, and showcasing her culinary talents in the kitchen.

In addition to her professional and personal pursuits, Lucilla cherished time spent with her family. She is survived by her daughter Sherry York of Tallahassee; grandchildren Cheree York, Brandon McLaurin, William Henderson, and Wendell Henderson; nine great-grandchildren; and sister Mavis Glass.

Lucilla is preceded in death by her husband William Acie York, daughter Shelia York, father Bob Hires, mother Cora Lee Hires, sisters Sally Folsom and Lola Good, brothers Robert Hires and John Hires, as well as brother-in-laws Lester Glass, Tom Good, and Earl Folsom.

A visitation to honor Lucilla's memory will be held on July 16, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Lucilla Hires York will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace knowing that her legacy of kindness and creativity lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
