Mervin Gay Brown, 86, of Doerun, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Doerun with Dr. David Benton, Rev. Travis Gay and Dr. Mitchell Kimbrell officiating. Interment will follow in Doerun Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Casketbearers will be Aaron Brown, Caleb Brown, Jacob Brown, Victor Stansberry, Ben Gay, Patrick Gay, and Chad Kimbrell.
Honorary casketbearers will be Frank Taylor, Floyd Taylor, Jim Saunders, Jason Gay, Jamie Saunders, Will Hobbs, and Phil Brown.
Born July 19, 1936, in Colquitt County, she was the daughter of the late Ocie Dell Tate Gay and Walter Earlie Gay.
Mervin was a jam-up basketball player and played for the Doerun Deers throughout her high school years. Mrs. Brown was a dedicated servant and enjoyed helping others whenever possible. She was devoted to her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She served her family and friends, especially through her cooking. She loved to attend all of her family’s activities, and she enjoyed fishing and trips to St. John’s River with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Carol Lee Brown, Sr.; sisters, Martha Taylor, Marie Saunders, Myra Kimbrell; brother, Max Gay; father and mother-in-law, Naomi and Haywood Brown; siblings-in-law, Mack Taylor, Ray Saunders, Wayne Brown, Bobby Brown, Hal Brown, Betsy and Ron Meredith.
Survivors include her daughter, Jill Brown; son, Lee Brown and wife Susan all of Doerun; grandchildren, Aaron Brown and wife Ginny, Caleb Brown, Jennifer Brown Stansberry and husband Victor; great-grandchildren, Jacob Brown, Katie Brown, Malia Cook, Roman Stansberry; brother, Merle and wife Dianne; brother-in-law, Jerry Kimbrell; sisters-in-law, Imogene Gay, Jean Brown, Doris Brown, Jackie Brown; many nieces and nephews along with special friends.
