Born April 25, 1933, in Laurens County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Cecil B. and Lucy Mae Waites Bryant. Mrs. Smith began her teaching career in Ellenton, GA and helped positively shape the minds of students for 33 years. She met and married the love of her life, Rudolph B. Smith. During their marriage, they traveled due to his military postings which allowed her to share her knowledge with students in New Hampshire, Maine, and Virginia before returning to Georgia. Mrs. Smith retired from Norman Park Elementary School in 1989 and remained active in the Colquitt County Retired Educators Association serving in different capacities. She was a lifelong learner who strived to master new skills. Mrs. Smith took numerous continuing education classes which taught her how to use technology, like email and texting, so that she could stay in contact with her most precious accomplishment in life, her family. She enjoyed volunteering at the Museum of Colquitt County History and participating in service organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Smith loved her family above all things, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They would always find her eager to help them in any way she could. When she was able, she also enjoyed simple pleasures like working in her flower beds and reading. Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of Buck Creek Baptist Church, where she served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Clerk. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rudolph B. Smith; her brother Mallory Bryant; and a nephew Cecil Ray Bryant.
