Mrs. Cato was born April 30, 1921, in Colquitt County, daughter of the late William Jackson Jordan and Sallie Nancy Giles Jordan. Mrs. Cato met her love, Hiram T. Cato, at the Swift Canteen Skating Rink, sharing a wonderful life together until his death in 1977. Mrs. Cato dedicated over 20 years to her role as librarian for Doerun Public Library and particularly enjoyed touching the lives of the many children who visited. She was a member of the Volunteer Auxiliary at Colquitt Regional Medical Hospital, a role that suited her easy-going and sweet nature. Mrs. Cato loved to garden and shared her talents with the Magnolia Garden Club, serving in various positions over the years. She was always up for traveling with family and friends. Mrs. Cato was a very dedicated member of Cool Springs Baptist Church, Sale City, until her move to a Magnolia Manor Independent apartment in Moultrie. At that time, she became an active member at First Baptist Church in Moultrie. Not one to sit still, Mrs. Cato began painting at 90 years of age and in just over a decade created more than 100 remarkable landscapes and still-life paintings. She was determined to celebrate 100 years and enjoyed her last birthday with many family and friends.
