R.C. resided in “the North end of the county” most of his life but he had residencies in Century, Florida, Pensacola, Florida and finally Moultrie, Georgia where he moved to be closer to his daughter, grandchildren and great children.
R.C. graduated from Century High School in 1953. He was known as a Romeo and dated several young ladies. But his eye was on one favorite and that was Thelma Wiggins. He started attending church at Christian Home Free Will Baptist Church so that he could be close to her. They ran away to the courthouse and was married on November 28, 1953 They would have celebrated their 67th anniversary this year. They went on to raise one daughter, Sandra.
R.C. was a man of many talents and he had several occupations. He had a strong work ethic and started working as a teenager. His first full time occupation was the owner/ manager of the Century Filling Station. He then served two years in the U.S. Army. When he returned, he started working at Joe’s Woodworking where he learned to build cabinets. He later took over the business and worked there until he closed the doors in 1983. The homes of his daughter and grandchildren are filled with the many things that he has built for each one of them.
R.C. was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Dora. His sister, Alice Raines, his brothers, Robert Wiggins, James Wiggins, Eddie Wiggins and his little sister, Evelyn Wiggins. He is survived by his loving wife, Thelma Wiggins, his daughter, Sandra and son-in-law Randy Jackson, his grandchildren, Rebecca Sauls and Stephen Jackson, and his beloved great grandchildren Gracie Lee Sauls, Matthew Levi Sauls and Addison Bailey Jackson.
His most valued occupation was serving as a bi-vocational pastor. R.C. loved the Lord and served him for 27 years. He pastored several churches and continued to pastor until his health prevented him from pastoring any longer. He never stopped preaching and we were blessed to hear his final message on Sunday, October 25, 2020.
