MOULTRIE, GA. - Rex Lamar King passed away on September 1, 2022, at the age of 77 in his hometown of Moultrie, Georgia. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Rex stayed strong until the end.
Rex graduated from Norman College and Moultrie Tech. He was member of the Georgia Civil Air Patrol earning the rank of Lt. Colonel. Rex was an Auctioneer at several auction houses for livestock around the southeast. He had many talents, he could draw, play the piano, and repair a mean pair of cowboy boots. Rex had a talent for leather work. Making belts and holsters. Rex worked at the family-owned King’s Western Wear and Shoe Repair for many years.
Rex had a zest for life and loved the outdoors. He was an avid collector of firearms. Rex won many trophies for his marksman ship over the years. He enjoyed history and traveling to historic sites. He has a passion for ice cream and BBQ. Rex enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever he could.
Rex met the love of his life, Martha Ann Cook, in attending Moultrie High. It was love at first sight, and they supported each other every step of the way of their 59 years together. Together, they had four children, Molly, Todd, Rexanne and John.
Rex is preceded by in death by his mother, Nell Hooper King, his father, Jack King and his brother, Jackie King.
Rex is survived by his wife of 59 years Martha Ann (Cook); children, Molly Jones (Mitch) of Georgetown, SC., Todd(Marnie) King of Johns Creek, Ga, Rexanne Yarbrough of Moultrie, John (Pam)King of Centre, Al., and his brother Michael King of Macon.
He is survived by eight grandchildren. Savannah Bailey(Brian) of Gainesville, Ga. Statom Willis of West Palm Beach, FL, Candler Willis (Mallorie) of Pawleys Island, SC, Jami Wiles (Justin) of Euharlee, Ga., Hunter Yarbrough of Valdosta, Camille Yarbrough of Moultrie, Aynya and Zofie King of Johns Creek, Ga. Six great grandchildren: Anastyn, Kamree, Porter, Elle, Emma, Everlee and Mitchell. The family would like to thank all the nurses and support staff for their care and support.
