Stella Alcala Venet

December 16, 1930 — February 27, 2023

MOULTRIE, GA- Stella Alcala Venet, 92, of Moultrie, passed away at home peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 27, 2023.

Born December 16, 1930, in Manhattan, New York, she was the daughter of Louis and Maria Alcala.

Growing up in the Spanish Harlem neighborhood of New York, Stella made friends there who she kept in touch with throughout her life. Chief among her encounters in New York was making acquaintance with a family friend named Ernest Venet before she was 20.  Stella was swept off her feet after meeting Ernest and remained enamored with his larger-than-life personality through their courtship, eventual marriage, and until his passing in 1980. In the early 1950s, Stella gave birth of her only child Ernest Venet Jr. "Ernie" and soon thereafter moved with her family to Miami, FL -- where she lived for the majority of her life. In Florida, Stella spent 37+ years as a dedicated employee of the telecommunications company Southern Bell and spent her downtime fishing in the keys with the family. Stella also enjoyed spending time with her large extended family (most of whom also lived throughout south Florida). She was known in the family for her cooking at every occasion, specializing in Cuban food and an occasional lasagna. In her retirement, Stella enjoyed the thrill and community of bingo at the Miccosukee casino. In 2015, Stella relocated to South Georgia to be around her son Ernie and the rest of the family.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Maria Alcala and her husband Ernest Venet Sr.

She is survived by her son Ernest Venet, Jr. (Teresa), Stepson Miguel Venet (Eida), Grandchildren Lana Venet Salter (Lee), Ernest "Chip" Venet III (Emily), Michael Venet (Ryan), Sandra Venet Gonzales, Nylsa Venet Miranda, Michael Ernest Venet, and Jayson Venet. Great- Grandchildren Ava Camille Venet, Maya Olivia Salter, Braden Michael Venet, John Tate Salter, Kate Arlette Venet, William Beck Salter, Noah Alexander Venet-Kool.
