MOULTRIE, GA – Steve “Sonny” Augusta Godwin, Jr. 77, of Moultrie, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 2, 2023, First Baptist Church of Moultrie with the Reverend Matt Peek officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45PM Friday at First Baptist Church of Moultrie.

Born January 9, 1946, in Thomasville, Georgia, he was the son of the late Steve A. Godwin, Sr. and Mary Catherine Young Godwin. Steve was an elementary school principal for Colquitt County Board of Education. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Moultrie. Steve was a wonderful, caring, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was always there for you.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchild, Lane Barry; sister, Peggy Hopkins.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Turner Godwin of Moultrie; daughter, Allyson Godwin Barry of Tifton; grandchildren, Walker Watts Barry, Kathrine Delane Barry, Addison Grace Barry; siblings, Barbara Davis and the late Richard of Greensboro, FL, Kitty McKenzie and husband J.I. of Camilla; several other extended family members and close friends.
