Thelma Davis Pettyjohn, born on August 5, 1931, in Davenport, Florida, was the daughter of the late James Irvin Davis and Minnie Drew Davis. In 1953, she moved to Moultrie after marrying, where she raised her family and devoted herself to staying home with her children for nearly 12 years.
Later in life, she began her career as a seamstress at Wilvereen Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1993. A woman of deep faith, Thelma loved Jesus, her family, music, and books. As an avid reader, she could often be found reading her Bible, and she was known as a faithful prayer warrior, always called upon to intercede for others.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she loved them deeply. They, in turn, know there was truly no one like their "Little Granny." Her love, influence, and strong will are woven into the very fabric of each of them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Gene Pettyjohn; son, Audie Pettyjohn and late wife, Tami; siblings, Lefaie Bryant, Sabrinia Holt, Frank Davis, Ralph Davis, Russell Davis, Emmett Davis and Eugene Davis; sisters-in-law, Mildred Davis, Corine Davis, Docia Davis and brother, J.I. Davis.
Mrs. Pettyjohn is survived by her daughter, Teresa Cox and husband, Lynton; sister, Viria Brown; brother, Phillip Morey and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Haley Cowan and husband, Nathan, Whitlee Jones and husband Daniel, Hannah Cox and husband Adam Reynolds, and Shannon Baker; great-grandchildren, Anders Cowan, Beckett Cowan, Isla Grace Jones, Noah Jones and Amalia Cowan; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
