Tommy Proctor

December 16, 1935 — February 20, 2022

Thomas “Tommy” Richard Proctor, 86, of Moultrie, Georgia, transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Legacy Village at Park Regency in Moultrie.

Graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Charlie Tucker officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service.

Born December 16, 1935, in Rome, Georgia, he was the son of the late Gordon Wright Proctor and Elmore Pitts Proctor.  He was a United States Veteran, having served in the US Army.  Mr. Tommy was known throughout Colquitt County and surrounding areas as a kind, humble, giving, southern gentleman who genuinely loved others.  He was known in his earlier years for his “live” fastball, which he called his “bread and butter”.  He was inducted into the Moultrie Colquitt County Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.  His pitching skills were the highlight of high school, county league, semi-pro (Albany Cardinals), and professional baseball (Fresno Cardinals).  A shoulder injury cut his baseball career short, so he returned home and worked with Merck Chemical, owned and operated Doerun Hardware, and then retired after 18 years with the Moultrie canning plant. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, spending time with family…especially the grands, and visiting with people.  He was a Mason and member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Hathcock Proctor; son, Dale Rodney Proctor; brothers, Wallace Proctor and Ramsey Proctor.

Survivors include his daughter, Dawn McLean and husband Mark of Doerun; grandchildren, Cody McLean and wife Lori, Katie Summerlin and husband Cole; great-grandchildren, Montana McLean, Miller McLean, McLean Summerlin, and Marlie Kate Summerlin; siblings, Jimmy Proctor and wife Peggy of Doerun, Faye Drawdy of Columbus, and Sue Courtright of Seattle, Washington; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Children's Home, Grand Lodge Secretary, P. O. Box 4665, Macon, GA 31208 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Please sign the online guestbook.
