Vernon Randel Weldon

Vernon “Randel” Weldon, 72, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at his home.

          Funeral service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, October 3, 2020 at New Elm Baptist Church with the Rev. Trey Eakins officiating.  Interment will follow in New Elm Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.   Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are recommended.

          Casketbearers will be Dan Mercer, Dwayne Mercer, Doug Mercer, Michael Horne, Ponda Clark, David Rossman and Chris Summerlin.  Honorary casketbearers will be Don Horne, Jr. and John Mercer.  

          Born August 13, 1948 in Moultrie, he was the son of Grace Blackburn Weldon of Moultrie and the late Talmadge Weldon.   Mr. Weldon was a United States Navy Veteran and retired from Taylor-Pittsburgh Implement Company as a regional sales manager.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and loved them dearly.  His family remembers how he enjoyed singing, auto racing, admiring antique cars, and restoring antique pedal cars and tractors.  He was a talented handyman and could fix anything.  

          In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Weldon.

          In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Carol Mercer Weldon of Moultrie; son, Randy Weldon and wife Lynn of Moultrie; grandson, Alex Weldon of Moultrie; sister, Diane Weldon Horne and husband Don of Doerun; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members; wonderful caregiver, Cheyenne Bowe.

          In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
