WG McDonald

THOMASVILLE, GA.  Wilbur Grover “WG” McDonald, 96, of Thomasville, and formerly of Moultrie, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Camellia Gardens of Life Care.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Garvie Nichols officiating.  Interment will follow in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 AM on Saturday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Mr. McDonald’s family will serve as casketbearers.

Born June 3, 1927, in Brooks County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Henry Grady McDonald and Hollie Mae Carter McDonald.  Mr. McDonald was a Master Electrician who learned his trade through experience and self-teaching.  He was an avid gardener who loved spending his spare time growing a variety of plants and vegetables.  Mr. McDonald was a hardworking man that did all he could to care for his family and anyone else who was in need.   He loved to fish anytime he could.  Mr. McDonald was a veteran having served his country faithfully and honorably in the United States Army during World War II.  He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Ester Ruth May McDonald and Mary Mead McDonald; sons, James W. McDonald and Jerry S. McDonald; a great-grandson, Keagon Travis; siblings, Bama McDonald McGuire, Trevia McDonald Crosby, Louise McDonald Jackson NeSmith, Henry G. McDonald, Jr., Winnie McDonald Lanier, Eugene C. McDonald and Troy J. McDonald; and step-sons, Frank Mead and John Mead.

Survivors include his children, Myra J. McDonald Hurst, Darrell W. McDonald, and Daniel G. McDonald; step-children, Louis George Ruggerio, Ronald W. Mead, Sylvia Gallan and Mary Wolf; sister, Bobbie McDonald Vermillion; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
