Cleveland Bennett Payne

PELHAM, GA – Cleveland Bennett Payne, 69, of Pelham, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 1, 2023, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Terry Siniard officiating. Interment with military honors, will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Berlin, GA. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45PM Monday at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Casketbearers will be Zachery Payne, Peyton Payne, Cleveland Payne, Hayes Stills, Wayne Powell and John Shumate. Born November 21, 1953, in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late Bennett Edward Payne, Jr. and Betty Ruth Dean Carroll. Mr. Cleveland was a United States Marine Veteran. He retired from Condee Cooling as an air conditioning installer. Mr. Cleveland loved his family, and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed going fishing, working in the garden and land clearing. Mr. Cleveland was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Dessire Payne and Triston Payne. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hayes Stills Payne of Pelham; children, Melissa Kent and Dean, Cleveland Payne and April all of Moultrie, Britt Stills and wife Melissa of Pelham; grandchildren, Zachery Payne, Kinsely Payne, Peyton Payne, Lauren Payne, Cleveland Payne, Tiffany Payne, Hayes Stills; great-grandchildren, Paisley Payne, Lyndsey Payne, Piper Payne, Eden Payne, Isabella Payne, Elena Payne; siblings, Glen Payne, Travis Payne, Lisa Powell Humphries; several extended family members and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Shriner’s Children Hospital. Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
